About the event

Workshop Provides Effective Strategies for Dealing with Dementia Behaviors

The Area Agency on Aging offers a FREE four hour workshop for Family Dementia Caregivers. The workshop combines a learning experience with a Dealing with Dementia Guide, a comprehensive reference for caregivers of people living with dementia.

The four-hour workshop introduces caregivers to each section of the guide providing basic information on dementia, insights into the caregiving journey, how to develop a dementia-friendly environment, dementia behavior management, caregiver self-care, and selecting the best services and resources. The workshop highlights safety, problem-solving, communication, and stress management. The aim of the workshop is to prepare the caregiver to be able to quickly and easily access the information they need from the guide when they need it.

“Receiving a dementia diagnosis can be scary for both the person diagnosed and their loved ones, who’s caregiving journey often begins with that diagnosis,” said Kristina Raner of the Area Agency on Aging, “Dealing with Dementia provides tips and strategies for caregivers on best practices for caring for their loved ones and themselves. The support provided by the Dealing with Dementia Guide continues and increases as the caregiver refers to the information provided throughout their caregiving journey.”

Caregivers who attend the four-hour workshop will receive a copy of the new Dealing with Dementia Guide. This guide provides over 300 pages of information and solutions to problems caregivers face every day. If you are a caregiver or know someone who is caring for a loved one with dementia, don’t miss this important opportunity.

The Area Agency on Aging-Five County Association of Governments has been providing services to frail elderly and disabled adults for over 20 years. We have an experienced staff with extensive skills and knowledge of community resources who can access these services to meet the needs of the aging population across five counties - Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, and Washington - in Southern Utah.
