Becoming A Volunteer Is A Goal We Can Help You Keep!

When the New Year rolls around, we start to reflect on what our past year was and what we would like our New Year to be. How many of us make resolutions to be healthier, lose weight, get our finances in order, or start a new exercise program? These are some very common resolutions, but what about some inner growth such as being kinder, less judgmental and helping others? We have a way to help you accomplish a lot of those goals by becoming a volunteer with the Area Agency on Aging-Five County! Through AmeriCorps Seniors we have Senior Companions, Foster Grandparents and RSVP – Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. These programs are supported and made possible by volunteers.

“Without volunteers, we’d be a nation without a soul.” -Rosalynn Carter

This quote reflects the purpose of volunteering, but it even goes beyond that. Our volunteers have gained a lot of positive experiences in providing service to others. Friendships have been developed as well as helping our volunteers share their skills and knowledge with others.

We are looking for seniors in the community that would like to become a part of our team of volunteers who are dedicated to helping others. Our programs will provide the training and supplies needed to help you be a successful volunteer.

  • Senior Companions help others with companionship, shopping, transportation to appointments and errands. Some very wonderful friendships and connections have been developed through this program not only for the client receiving the services but also for the volunteer.

  • Foster Grandparents is a program for those who enjoy interacting with students in elementary school and help them with their reading. This program has given the volunteers a sense of self-worth for the time and patience they have shared with the students they work with.

  • RSVP – Retired and Senior Volunteer Program has 8 different opportunities for volunteers. Our programs are educational classes to help others with information, physical classes to help prevent falls and keep us moving safely. We also offer Telephone Reassurance which is a companionship program to help overcome isolation and provide friendship through phone calls.

If you are looking to fulfill your New Year’s goals and finding a way to share your life skills and experiences, we would love to have you contact us to determine which program is the right fit for you.
